Drafter and promoter of a private Bill on ‘doctrine of necessity’ to introduce regional government in Nigeria, Dr. Akin Fapohunda, has debunked insinuations over working for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Dr. Fapohunda made this stance known in an exclusive discourse on a Liberty TV public affairs programme, ‘Democracy In Practice’, where he further proposed that Nigeria must replace the current system before the next election in 2027.
He also urged that INEC be dissolved and in its place the regions should conduct the next elections based on a new Regional Constitution in the draft Bill he proposed.
Dr. Fapohunda , a retired Director with the Federal Civil Service,
drafted Bill for discussion, seeking a return to the regional system of government.
Titled: A Bill for an Act to substitute the annexure to Decree 24 of 1999 with a new governance model for the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the draft seeks among others, a new extant laws to be cited as The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria New Governance Model for Nigeria Act 2024.
In a private framework he developed for speedy restructuring of Nigerias governance structure, Dr. Fapohunda also suggested the scrapping of the presidential system of government, reintroduction of the parliamentary system, return to unicameral legislature, as well as provision for self-determination by any section of the country which desires so.
