Ikoyi Building Collapse: Osinbajo denies ownership of land, explains his link

As 30 people confirmed dead

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has debunked reports in certain sections of the media that he owns the 21-storey high-rise Gerrard Road, Ikoyi, Lagos luxury property that collapsed on November 1, describing his alleged link to the property as sheer wickedness.

At least not less than 30 people have so far been confirmed dead, following the building’s collapse.

In a statement shared by his spokesperson, Laolu Akande, Osinbajo also denied that he influenced the Lagos State Government into not punishing the property developer after it was found out that the building failed structural integrity tests two years ago.

Prof. Osinbajo also said that he has no interest whatsoever, and has never had any interest, either legally or beneficially, in the land, the collapsed building, or development, adding that all his property and assets have been publicly declared.

The Vice President frowned at the publication by a well-known online media outfit that had linked him to the collapsed building.

Recall that the on-line media outfit had in its publication claimed that the VP owns the land upon which the collapsed building in Ikoyi stood.

The Vice-President expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident and condoled with the families and relatives of all those who have died, those injured or affected in the collapse.

He said he considered the painful loss of lives a horrible tragedy.
