Chairman of the Independent Broadcasting Association of Nigeria (IBAN), Alhaji (Dr.) Ahmed Tijjani Ramalan, has called on the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, to reinstate the Ministry of Information and Home Affairs, which was scrapped during the Nasir el-Rufa’i administration.

Ramalan made the appeal during the 48th National Council of Information and National Orientation, emphasizing the vital role of the ministry in managing public information and fostering communication between the Government and the citizens.
In his statement, Ramalan highlighted that the Ministry of Information was historically a critical partner for media practitioners, development organisations, and United Nations aid agencies operating in the state. He noted that its absence has created a gap in information dissemination and governance communication.
“Your Excellency, the Ministry of Information used to be a partner in progress, not only to media practitioners in Kaduna State but also to development partners and UN agencies,” Ramalan stated. “As partners in public information management, we derive mutual benefits in promoting development and communication”.
Ramalan underscored the importance of information in strengthening democracy, governance, and accountability. He praised Governor Uba Sani’s efforts to promote transparency, but argued that a dedicated ministry is needed to institutionalize information management.
“Information plays a vital role in democracy, and its significance in governance cannot be overstated. In an era where fake news, propaganda, and misinformation can influence public opinion, a dedicated Ministry of Information is indispensable in fostering critical thinking, trust, and accountability”, he said.

The IBAN Chairman aligned his call with recent remarks made by the Honourable Minister of Information, who emphasised the strategic role of information ministries at the State and federal levels. Ramalan reiterated that these ministries serve as vital bridges between government policies and the citizens, helping to educate the public, address misinformation, and promote collective development.
“The Ministry of Information plays a critical role in public sensitization. It serves as a platform for educating citizens on government policies, programmes, and initiatives. Without such a dedicated body, misinformation can erode trust and hinder progress,” Ramalan concluded.

The appeal comes as part of broader discussions during the National Council meeting, where stakeholders examined the challenges and opportunities in public information management across Nigeria.
Ramalan urged Governor Uba Sani to consider the reinstatement as a strategic move to strengthen communication, governance, and public trust in Kaduna State.
