Recall that President Tinubu announced the conferment of different categories of honours on the nations leaders during his Independence Day speech on Tuesday.

During yesterdays plenary session, lawmakers deemed it inappropriate for President Tinubu to bestow the prestigious Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) on Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, while relegating Abbas to the CFR.

This resolution followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by a lawmaker from Benue, Philip Agbese.

Recall that during his Independence Day address, President Tinubu announced that Akpabio and CJN Kekere-Ekun would receive the GCON, while Abbas and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin would be conferred with the CFR.

Additionally, Tinubu revealed that Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ben Kalu, would receive the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON), without specifying a date for the investitures.
