Sa’adatu Sambo, daughter of the Late Senator Abubakar Sodangi, has recently responded to the family of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir el-Rufa’i.
Sambo’s statement was published online, where she maintained that her Late father, Senator Sodangi, left behind an intact legacy and dignity. “Alhamdulillah, my father died with his dignity intact, by the grace of Allah (SWT). His legacy is also intact”, she posted.
She added that: “He did the job he loved for more than five decades, not four. So, Alhamdulillah, ala kulli hal. However, it is not just my beloved father; hundreds of families were destroyed due to wrongful evictions and demolitions carried out without court orders. How ironic that his own family is now fighting the courts”.
Sambo referenced the 2008 verdict led by her father, which indicted Nasir el-Rufa’i for gross abuse of office. She criticized the irony of the el-Rufa’i family now seeking relief from the courts after their history of conducting demolitions without valid court orders.
She strongly pushed back against claims that the ex-governor was being politically persecuted, reminding his family of the hundreds of households destroyed by his past demolitions without court orders.
Referencing a 2008 Senate probe, she said: “The Senate Committee led by the late Senator Abubakar Sodangi issued a report declaring that he had grossly abused his office and systematically violated court orders. The committee ruled that he was ‘not a fit and proper person to hold public office in a democratic setup.’ Yet, he was elected governor for eight years, and the people of Kaduna suffered the consequences”.
“Thank you for remembering our father. May Allah (SWT) continue to bless you. Amin”, she concluded.
This exchange comes amid ongoing legal and political developments in the state involving the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, (ICPC).
