@Hanifa: A’isha Buhari backs calls for public execution of alleged killer of 5-yr-old

As Kano court remands suspected killers

Nigeria’s First Lady, A’isha Buhari, says she is in support of capital punishment for Abdulmalik Tanko, the alleged killer of Hanifa Abubakar, a 5-yr-old pupil, in Kano State.

Buhari made her stance known via a post on her Instagram handle on Sunday.

Recall that Abubakar was kidnapped in December and later killed after her abductors demanded N6 million ransom.

On Thursday, the Police in Kano arrested Tanko, Abubakars proprietor, who allegedly abducted and killed her. The suspect confessed to the murder while answering questions on his involvement in the crime.

The incident has since generated public outcry and many have called on the government to ensure that the deceased pupil and her family get justice.

In a video that surfaced online, one Abdallah Gadon Kaya, an Islamic cleric, called on the Federal and Kano State governments to see to it that the suspect is served capital punishment.

He should be killed just the way he murdered the little girl. And this should be done openly for everyone to see. Let it serve as a deterrent to others, Kaya said, in Hausa.

The First Lady shared the video and captioned it with a statement in Hausa, loosely meaning: we support Malams judgement and called on the attention of the Inspector-General of Police and Attorney-General of the Federation to the matter.

Meanwhile, a Kano State Magistrate Court 12, sitting at Gidan Murtala, yesterday ordered the remand of the suspected kidnappers and killers of 5-yr-old Hanifa Abubakar.

The proprietor of Noble Kids School, Abdulmalik Tanko, alongside his two accomplices, Hashimu Isyaku and Fatima Jibrin, who were arraigned before the Magistrate Court yesterday, were charged for criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, concealing and keeping in confinement a kidnapped person and culpable homicide.

The Prosecution counsel, who is also the Kano State Attorney-General, Barrister Musa Lawan, pleaded with the court to grant them seven days for the counsels to prepare the charges and for the accused to be remanded in prison.

The presiding Judge, Magistrate Muhammad Jibril, ordered the suspects to be remanded in prison custody while the matter was adjourned to February 2nd, 2022.
