H/Reps. to probe Ecological Fund under Buhari era

The House of Representatives has constituted an Ad-hoc Committee on the Investigation of Ecological Fund under the office of the Secretary of the Federation (OSGF) Released and for the Great Green Wall from 2015-2023.

Its Committee on Ecology is to begin investigation of States and agencies over monies released to them under the Ecological Fund.

The Ecological Fund, currently managed by the Presidency, is an intervention facility set aside to tackle the multifarious ecological problems ravaging communities across the country.

Such problems include soil erosion, drought, desertification, oil spillage, pollution, general environmental pollution, storms, tornadoes, bush fires, large scale livestock and crop epidemics, crop pests, landslides and earthquakes.

Recall that the Federal Government, at least 266 projects were completed during Muhammadu Buhari’s administration between 2015 and 2022.

During the launch of a 554-page compendium of ecological projects undertaken by the administration in July 2022, titled: ‘President Buhari showcases 266 ecological projects completed under his watch, directs MDAS to publicise achievements’, it was revealed that 332 ecological projects were approved since 2015, out of which 266 were accomplished while the remaining 66 are at different stages of completion.

At the investigative hearing in Abuja, the committee also summoned leadership of the National Emergency Management Agency, while re-inviting others.
