The latest attack occurred in Nyamgo Gyel, a community in Jos-South local government area.

Residents said the victims were ambushed by armed men while returning home, in what has become a troubling pattern of violence in Plateau communities. The victims were reportedly riding on a motorbike when the assailants opened fire on them. The incident has left families in mourning and the community in fear.

Eyewitnesses said the victims were among a group of about 15 young men who had gone to a mining site in Gero earlier in the day. Trouble started when they were heading back home and unknowingly walked into an ambush.

The Youth Leader of the Gyel community, Dung Davou, confirmed the incident. He said the attack was sudden and chaotic, leaving little room for escape. “We started hearing sporadic gunshots, and everyone scattered. Unfortunately, three of our people were killed”, he said.

He described the attackers as suspected armed herdsmen and condemned what he called repeated and unprovoked assaults on the community. He urged security agencies to take swift action and protect residents from further attacks.

The incident is coming shortly after President Tinubu’s visit to Plateau State, where he had engaged stakeholders on peace and security. The timing of the attack has raised fresh questions about the effectiveness of ongoing security measures in the state.

Community leaders are calling for increased security presence, better intelligence gathering, and immediate intervention to prevent further bloodshed.
