President Muhammadu Buhari has pledged to review the salaries of deserving civil servants after the completion of work of the Presidential Committee on Harmonisation of Salaries Service-wide.

Buhari revealed this yesterday at the Nigeria Civil Service Day Celebration, which was held at the Banquet Hall, State House, Abuja.
The President, represented by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Musa Bello, disclosed that his administration had already set up the Presidential Committee on Harmonisation of Civil Servants’ Salaries Service-wide.
He, however, pointed out that following the gradual decline in the efficient service delivery of the civil servants, he had directed the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation to undertake very innovative and far-reaching reforms in the Service, adding that the reforms are gradually showing signs of bearing the desired fruits.
He further commended the resilience, dedication and commitment of workers in the implementation of policies and programmes geared towards national development, despite the present harsh economic realities they have been grappling with.
The President further assured that the Federal Government would spare no effort aimed at improving the competencies of officers in the civil service through training and re-training of staff by the system.
He, therefore, expressed optimism that the effective implementation of the Plan would take the Service to the next level, which is a professional, merit-based and technologically-driven civil service.
Buhari also announced various awards to some deserving and hardworking officers who, in their spheres of activities, have demonstrated a high level of commitment and dedication to duty
This move, he explained, was in continuation of the recognition and awards given to the most deserving officers in the various Ministries, Extra-Ministerial Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of Government last week.
The President further launched the Culture Change Video and the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021–2025 for use in the improvement of service delivery to the citizens.
In her welcome address, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, explained that the first pan-African Conference of Ministers of Public/Civil Service which was held in Tangier, Morocco in 1994, proclaimed that the 23rd of June each year be commemorated as Africa Day for the Civil Service.
The theme for this year’s celebration is: “Performance Management System (PMS): Impact on Productivity in the Nigerian Public Service”.
The high point of the Civil Service Day celebration was the awards-giving ceremony, which was given to 10 outstanding civil servants drawn from various MDAs who distinguished themselves in service.
One of the awardees won a GAC Jeep after the conduct of a ballot, while AIG-Imoukhuede Foundation pledged to give each awardee N500,000.
