Speaking during a televised interview on LibertyTV programme: ‘PoliticsNOW’ , Dalong dismissed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda as a self-serving initiative, arguing that it only benefits the President and his inner circle rather than addressing the suffering of ordinary Nigerians.

The former minister accused the government of implementing “insensitive genocidal policies” that have led to increasing restlessness among the populace.

Dalong further challenged President Tinubu to publicly disclose the savings accrued from the removal of the fuel subsidy, vowing that he would “die in exile” if the government could provide a transparent account of the funds. He questioned the administration’s justification for economic hardship, arguing that former President Muhammadu Buhari faced even greater financial challenges upon assuming office in 2015 but did not resort to blaming his predecessor.

“When Buhari took over, he was faced with a dire situation of over seven trillion naira in economic distress. The shock even affected his health. Tinubu has no reason to blame Buhari,” Dalong said, recalling how he, as a cabinet minister under Buhari, lacked an official vehicle for much of his tenure.

Looking ahead to the next general elections, Dalong described 2027 as a “pregnant political situation,” warning that early mismanagement of political alliances and internal betrayals were already shaping the landscape. He likened Tinubu’s political maneuvering—what he called “Emilokan politics”— to the coronavirus, stating that it is infecting opposition politics in Nigeria and causing fragmentation within the political class.

His remarks add to growing discontent among opposition figures and citizens grappling with rising inflation, unemployment, and economic uncertainty under Tinubu’s administration.
