#EndSARS: Hoodlums kill policemen, loot banks, attack media houses in Lagos

Nigerias commercial capital city, Lagos and several states across the country remained under curfew yesterday, as anti-Police protests broke out again following a day of violence, including the shooting of civilians by security forces.

Fires burned across the city and residents reported hearing gunfire, despite President Muhammadu Buharis appeal for understanding and calm.

Armed Police tried to enforce a round-the-clock curfew in the commercial capital, setting up checkpoints. But groups of young men blocked a number of major roads with overturned traffic signs, tree branches and rocks while smoke billowed from buildings that were ablaze.

The hoodlums, who have been causing mayhem in Lagos State under the guise of the ongoing #EndSARS protest, have killed two policemen at Orile Police station, wounded many at various stations and set ablaze ten police formations across the state.

The hoodlums descended on police stations/facilities and gruesomely murdered two policemen on Tuesday and yesterday, while others were critically injured. They looted the affected stations and carted away some valuables.

Some of the other affected police stations include Idimu, Igando, Layeni, Denton, Ilenbe Hausa, Ajah, Amukoko, Ilasa, Cele outpost under Ijesha; disbanded SARS office under Ajegunle; Ebute-Ero Mushin (Olosan) where two policemen were shot by the thugs; Ojo and Ajegunle where 2 patrol vans each were set ablaze.

Similarly, the hoodlums attacked three new generation banks on Tuesday and yesterday respectively, and carted away unspecified amount of money while some parts of the banks were set on fire before they were dislodged, and some of them were arrested with the loots from the banks, including arms and ammunition. 

Yesterday, the hoodlums again launched series of attack on many facilities within Lagos State such as the Palace of Oba of Lagos, Shoprite Ajah, Nigerian Port Authority head office Marina, the Governors mothers house at Akerele, VIO/Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) offices at Ojodu, Lagos State, Magistrate Courts, Igbosere, TVC television station, The Nation newspapers office as well as many other shops/malls were looted while others lost their lives.
