Election: S/West Forum to engage presidential candidates in a debate

The South-West Development Stakeholders Forum, which represents over 30 grassroots South-West associations, has said it has invited the presidential candidates of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP)) Atiku Abubakar, and the Labour Party, (LP),) Peter Obi, among others, to its parleys in Ibadan, Oyo State, on security and development.

The SWDSF made this known in an issued statement signed by its spokesman, Olalekan Ajia, on Monday, adding that the presidential candidates of the African Action Congress, (AAC), Omoyele Sowore; the New Nigeria People’s Party, (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso; Peoples Redemption Party, (PRP), Kolawole Abiola, and Adewole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), were also invited.

The statement noted that the purpose of the parley, which will hold at Jogor Centre, Ibadan, on January 17 and 18, 2023, according to the organisers, is to find common grounds between presidential manifestos and the aspirations and development plans of the people of the South-West region, as spelt out in the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN).

DAWN is a non-partisan blueprint, prepared jointly by the six Yoruba States for the region’s security and socio-economic development.

The group also stated that the parley will increase voters’ understanding and turnout in the South-West in the 2023 elections.
