A renowned advocacy group, the Grassroot Advocacy for Peace and Good Governance (GAPAG) has thrown its weight behind the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, praising what it described as far-reaching reforms and transformative projects across key sectors of the Nigerian economy.
Speaking during a solidarity rally held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja to mark Democracy Day, GAPAG National Chairman, Comrade Usman Mohammed Anache, said the organisation had closely monitored the policies and programmes of the Tinubu administration and found them impactful, particularly at the grassroots level.
Anache commended the Federal Government’s record investments in security and defence, noting that budgetary allocations of over ₦5.6 trillion in 2025 and ₦5.45 trillion in 2026 represented the highest in Nigeria’s history. According to him, the funding demonstrates the administration’s commitment to tackling the country’s longstanding security challenges.
The GAPAG chairman also highlighted major infrastructure projects being executed across the country, describing them as unprecedented in scale and scope. He cited the ongoing construction of over 4,800 kilometres of roads nationwide, including the 1,068-kilometre Illela-Badagry Super Highway and the 700-kilometre Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
Other strategic road projects he listed include the Sokoto-Gusau-Funtua-Zaria dual carriageway, Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano highway, Kano-Katsina dualisation project, Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe Expressway, and the Calabar-Ebonyi-Benue-Kogi-Nasarawa-Abuja highway. He also praised the approval of major railway projects, including the proposed Kano Blue Rail system.
On economic reforms, Anache said the administration had introduced significant changes in the power and petroleum sectors by liberalising electricity generation and distribution, encouraging private sector participation, and settling debts owed to power generation companies.
He further applauded policies that have enabled privately owned refineries to operate, saying the development has strengthened Nigeria’s petroleum industry and boosted the country’s capacity to refine and export petroleum products.
The GAPAG leader listed other achievements of the administration to include the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), efforts to address the demands of university lecturers, free emergency surgeries in public hospitals, improved welfare packages for federal civil servants, increased allocations to states and local governments, and ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening local government autonomy.
He also commended the upgrading of medical facilities to teaching hospitals, the establishment of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, and the expansion of police and military training and recruitment centres across the country.
On anti-corruption efforts, Anache said the Tinubu administration had empowered relevant agencies to investigate and prosecute corruption cases without regard to political affiliation. He expressed support for ongoing investigations into alleged financial irregularities in the petroleum sector, including probes reportedly involving over ₦210 trillion, and urged authorities to ensure that all allegations are thoroughly investigated.
While calling on Nigerians to remain united and supportive of government efforts, Anache said sustained public backing was necessary for the successful implementation of reforms aimed at repositioning the country.
“We urge all Nigerians to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and support his administration’s vision for a more secure, prosperous and developed Nigeria,” he said.
The solidarity rally formed part of activities commemorating the 2026 Democracy Day celebration and attracted supporters of the administration from various parts of the country.
