…Says education in the North backward by 20 yrs
The former military Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, has raised alarm over the steady defections by politicians.

Abdulsalami, represented by the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Kukah, disclosed this on Thursday, at the launch of the Peace and Inclusive Security Initiative by governors in Abuja.
He pointed out the danger of realignment by politicians ahead of the 2023 general, emphasising that change of parties by politicians could destabilise the country.
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Uche Secondus, had similarly recently condemned the defection of Zamfara State governor, Bello Matawalle. Bello is the third Governor to join APC in 2021. Cross-River State governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, and Governor David Umahi, of Ebonyi, had moved to the ruling party before Matawalle.
The former Head of State also lamented that insecurity has set education in the northern part of the country backward by 20 years.
Abdulsalami made the observation on Thursday, when he received officials of the Niger State chapter of the Campaign for Democracy and Human Rights, led by its state chairman, Abdullahi Jabi, at his Minna uphill residence in Niger State.
He noted that many children of school age can no longer go to school while those in schools are being kidnapped.
He also described insecurity as a major hindrance to the socio-economic development of the country and urged that all hands must be on deck to bring it to an end.
