COVID-19: “Investigate Ministers who allegedly mishandled funds” – CSO urges Tinubu

A non-profit organisation, One Love Foundation, (OLF), yesterday, called on President Bola Tinubu, to investigate former Ministers who mishandled Covid-19 funds and inflated contracts.

The call was made by the OLF Founder and President, Chief Patrick Eholor, while commending Tinubu on his efforts to fight corrupt Ministers in his cabinet.

Eholor, who described Tinubu’s transformative potential as the “stone the builder rejected who later became the chief cornerstone” said the President should not relent nor be distracted by anybody but should go on with the investigation as he had started with the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betty Edu, and beam his light on other corrupt Ministers and their aides.

Meanwhile, the social crusader and voice against corruption Eholor as he is popularly referred to hail the boldness of the Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, added that it is important the alleged financial mismanagement during the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari be thoroughly investigated.

He said: “Ministers who purportedly mishandled Covid-19 funds and inflated contracts are branded as murderers.

“These Ministers that served under the Buhari-led administration are to be investigated and prosecuted if found guilty for the crime against humanity that they committed while in office.

“We are aware of the diversion of funds that would have transformed our health sector and Nigerians enjoying what belongs to them, but these people took and starched the monies in their private accounts.

“We really commend the recent proactive measures President Bola Tinubu is taking against corrupt Ministers, and we are solidly behind him to do more in order to cleanse the rot that had destroyed governance and service to the people.

“We want the President to continuously lead this fight against corruption not minding who ox is gored and not to be distracted, therefore the EFCC should commence investigations on former Ministers who were allegedly involved in mishandling Covud-19 funds meant for Nigerians. It will also further strengthen the confidence of Nigerians on the Tinubu-led administration, especially in the fight against corruption”.

However, he also advocated for death penalty for corruption-related offences, underscoring the severity of the consequences it brought on the citizenry.

Meanwhile, he urged Nigerians to support effort of the EFCC in the fight against corruption and also there should be synergy between the anti-graft agencies and Nigerians, therefore transparency and punishment on those found guilty should be carried out to boost public trust and confidence.
