Covid-19: FG threatens to stop Abuja-Kaduna, Lagos-Ibadan train services — Amaechi

  • Says 60 percent of Lagos-Ibadan railway workers infected

The Federal Government says it will shut down the Lagos-Ibadan and the Abuja-Kaduna train services should there be any case of Covid-19 detected among passengers.

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who stated this yesterday while featuring on a television programme, said the train services on all routes might stop if passengers do not adhere to COVID-19 protocol.

Amaechi, who said train users must comply with all Covid-19 protocols from the beginning of every trip to the end, further disclosed that over 60 percent of the workforce on the construction of the Lagos-Ibadan railway project are currently battling with COVID-19 infection.

The minister also added that the $1.6bn Lagos-Ibadan railway project, which would be completed this month, would be inaugurated virtually by President Muhammadu Buhari, but said the commissioning would be put on hold due to the upsurge of COVID-19 in the country.
