..As she heads to Supreme Court
The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has affirmed the death sentence imposed on Maryam Sanda over the death of her husband, Bilyaminu Mohammed Bello.
The Federal Government had arraigned Sanda and three others on a two-count charge bordering on culpable homicide. She was convicted and sentenced to death by hanging on January 27, 2020 by Justice Yusuf Halilu.
Following the death sentence, Sanda approached the appellate court seeking to upturn the trial courts judgment.
The appellate court, in a unanimous judgment by a three-man panel of Justices led by Justice Stephen Adah, said it found no reason to set aside the verdict of a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, which Okayed Maryam to die by hanging.

In a notice of appeal predicated on 20 grounds, the appellant, through her legal team, described the judgment of the trial court as a miscarriage of justice. However, the appellate court yesterday upheld the death sentence.
Meanwhile, Sanda is set to approach the Supreme Court, in a bid to overturn the judgments of the lower court.
However, her lawyer, Joe Gadzama, (SAN), who expressed displeasure with the judgment of the Appeal court, said they would approach the Supreme Court to overturn the verdict.
