The Local Government Elections in Kaduna State has been postponed twice because the batteries that power the electronic voting machines EVMs are old and needed to be replaced.
The chairperson of the State Independent Electoral Commission SIECOM, Saratu Dikko Audu made this assertion in Kaduna at the maiden edition of a seminar organized by the state media corporation KSMS with the theme; Local Government Reforms, Election and Service Delivery in Kaduna State.
She said the EVMs are about four years old and the batteries needed to be changed hence the delay and postponement.
She stressed that Kaduna is the first state in Nigeria and Africa to utilise electronic voting system for local government polls.
She assured that the SIECOM will conduct a free, fair, credible and transparent Local government elections in the state.
