Borno: “Weve eliminated 50 ISWAP terrorists, foiled suicide bomb attack” Army

The Nigerian Army said its troops have foiled an attack on Damboa local government area (LGA) of Borno State by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists.

It said the terrorists had launched a futile attack in the town with armoured personnel carriers and 12 gun trucks all mounted with anti-aircraft guns, as well as locally fabricated armoured-plated vehicles loaded with explosives and motorcycles.

In a statement issued by the Director Army of Public Relations, Brig. Gen, Mohammed Yerima, the army said the troops destroyed the locally fabricated armoured-plated vehicles and killed over 50 of the ISWAP terrorists.

In the statement, dated June 2, the Army noted that the, so-called suicide bombers had abandoned their vehicles and ran away.

Yerima said the troops launched the counter-attack under Operation Hadin Kai in conjunction with air component of the Operation, adding that the troops recovered several weapons and ammunition from the terrorists.

The Chief of Army Staff, (COAS), Major General Faruk Yahaya, congratulated the troops, including its Air Component, for the achievement.

Yahaya restated the armys commitment to ending terrorism and other violent crimes in the North-East and the rest of the country.

He further enjoined the troops to sustain the ongoing offensive under ‘Operation Tura Takaibango‘.
