…Calls for urgent global aid
The Independent Broadcasting Association of Nigeria, (IBAN), has expressed deep solidarity with the government and people of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital and the wider North-East region of Nigeria, as they face a humanitarian crisis caused by catastrophic flooding.

According to a press statement issued in Maiduguri on Thursday, signed by its Chairman, Alhaji (Dr.) Ahmed Ramalan and Director of Publicity IBAN, Gregory Odutayo, the disaster has displaced thousands, leaving many families struggling to access food, shelter, and medical care.
In the statement, IBAN acknowledged the efforts of the government, aid agencies, and local communities working to provide relief. The association emphasized the role of the media in keeping the public informed about the crisis and called on Nigerian broadcasters to continue raising awareness.
It said, “As broadcasters, we stand committed to ensuring that the plight of those affected remains in the public consciousness. In times like these, the role of media is vital in amplifying the voices of the vulnerable and ensuring that the necessary resources and assistance reach those in need.
“We urge all broadcasters in Nigeria to continue highlighting the scale of this tragedy and mobilizing public and private support”.
The organization pledged to use its platforms to drive advocacy and support ongoing recovery efforts in the affected areas.
IBAN also issued an urgent appeal to the international community for financial, material, and technical support to help address the scale of the disaster. “The scale of this disaster requires a global response, and any form of assistance—be it financial, material, or technical expertise—will go a long way in bringing relief to the affected population”, it stated.
The association reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the plight of those affected remains a priority for both local and international response efforts.
“IBAN will continue to play its part in disseminating information and raising awareness about this disaster, ensuring that those in need are not forgotten. We pledge to use our platforms to drive advocacy for sustained local and international efforts aimed at mitigating the effects of this disaster and rebuilding affected communities.
“Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victims, their families, and all the people of Maiduguri as they navigate through these trying times”, said IBAN Chairman, Ramalan.
