Gombe State governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, has approved the relaxation of the 24-hour curfew imposed on Billiri local government area of the State last Friday over the appointment of Mai Tangale.
The governor announced the relaxation today, after meeting with officials and elders from the local government areas. The curfew will now be from 6am to 2pm.
Yahaya said the curfew was relaxed after a consultation with all the relevant stakeholders and the relative peace recorded in the area since the imposition of the curfew, adding that this was expected to aid the peace and healing process agreed in the local government area, to be led by the executives of Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN).
Recall that the State government had imposed a 24 hours curfew in Billiri following violent protests by the youths of the area over allegations of appointment of an unpopular candidate as the new Mai Tangale, which the government denied.
The former Mai Tangale, Dr Abdu Buba Mausharu, died on January 11, 2021.
