Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, has asked US President Donald Trump to apologise to Nigeria over his remarks on the country.

This was as he blasted Trump for labelling Nigeria ‘a disgraced country’, describing the statement as offensive and undiplomatic.
Recall that the US President last week designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged Christian genocide in the country. He also threatened to invade Nigeria with US forces if the Nigerian government fail to stop the killings of Christians.
Jibrin made this statement in a viral video on Friday, saying Trump’s threat violated diplomatic norms and international law.
“But for now, for the president of the United States to come in and say, ‘Oh, you are doing this and we are going to attack you, and Nigeria is a disgraced country’; this is quite unacceptable”, Jilbrin stated.
“We feel that he should understand, then retract that statement and apologise to Nigeria”, he added.
The lawmaker stated that Trump’s threat contradicts American values he swore to uphold, saying no foreign leader had the right to issue military threats without due process.
The federal government had denied the allegations of targeted killings of Christians in the country, while insisting that both Christians and Muslims have been victims of terrorist attacks in the country.
