The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara has alleged a plot by the state government, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) to manipulate the results of the Kauran-Namoda South bye-election.

The APC is now insisting on the use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machine for the upcoming Zamfara supplementary election, declaring: “no BVN, no supplementary elections”.
The supplementary election is scheduled to be held today, Thursday, August 21, 2025.
In a statement issued in Gusau by the Zamfara State APC publicity secretary, Malam Yusuf Idris, the party claimed to have received “credible information from the state government house of a nocturnal meeting carried out around 3 am of Tuesday (19/8/2025)” between the REC, the state government and the PDP.
The statement alleged that the meeting centered on how to upturn the bye-election, which was declared “inconclusive” by the returning officer, in favour of the PDP.
According to the APC, a source revealed that the parties allegedly decided against using the BVAS machine in the rerun. The statement read: “this is because out of the 3000 contestable votes, they can easily manipulate the figures in favour of the PDP and declare it winner in the election that APC is already leading with over 1600 votes”.
Additionally, the APC claimed to have gathered that the REC “allegedly received millions of naira to perpetrate this act by compelling his staff against using the BVAS machine”.
In light of the alleged security agents’ involvement in the initial election, the APC appealed to the Commissioner of Police, the Director of State Service (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Commandant to direct all personnel posted to the Government House to remain at their duty posts and away from the rerun election venues.
Responding to the serious allegations, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mahamud Isah, denied all claims. “I’m not aware of anything, it’s a fabricated lie and I leave everything to God”, he stated.
The APC concluded its statement by assuring its supporters that they will “remain calm and law-abiding as long as the right thing is done“.
