Gunmen, yesterday, threw explosives into the Ihiala police divisional headquarters, setting the building alight, as attacks on public assets show no sign of abating in the South-East.

The Anambra State Police Command spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, in an issued statement, confirmed the attack, but said the assailants were promptly repelled. He said one abandoned AK-47 rifle was recovered during a gun battle.
“The gunmen escaped the scene due to the superior fire of the Police operatives, although no casualty was recorded”, the Police spokesman further stated.
He explained further, saying, “Unfortunately, the explosives the gunmen threw inside the Police station had already ignited a fire that affected the building”.

Ikenga assured that security operations were still on-going in the area, promising that further details would be communicated to the public.
