Alleged Corruption: Northern elders to summon region’s govs over worsening insecurity

…Says region won’t vote along religious, tribal lines

Worried by the height of insecurity, northern elders under the aegis of the Coalition of Northern Groups, (CNG) have resolved to meet with governors from the region on how to end the menace.

This was contained in a communiqué issued after a 2-day retreat in Bauchi State, and signed by its spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman.

According to the CNG, the meeting will also investigate growing concerns over what they called “rampant security, defence corruption” running into trillions of Naira. The group added that the carnage bedevilling the zone has plunged 8.4 million people in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe States into poverty and despair.

Suleiman stressed that they would resist the temptation and pressure to vote for a particular party, noting that only credible candidates with track records would be supported.

He warned the international community, particularly the United Nations to steer clear of the country’s security affairs.
