At least fourty people were reportedly killed when the rampaging armed terrorists attacked Zurak village in Bashar district of Plateau State.
Sources familiar with the development disclosed that the incident happened on Monday evening.
The heavily armed men invaded the village, located in Wase local government area, shooting sporadically.
Over 40 persons, including vigilantes, were killed during the brutal attack, locals who survived the attack stated. The residents said they could not immediately report the incident due to the poor communication network in the area.
According to a youth leader in the area, Sahpii Sambo, the terrorists arrived at the community on motorcycles two on a bike with sophisticated weapons.
For months on end now, villages and towns in Plateau State have come under relentless attack from terrorists. Thousands of lives have been lost, many displaced and properties destroyed by the marauding terrorists.
In a related development, on Sunday, terrorists targeted Dawaki, a community near Kubwa in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
These terrorists, locally referred to as bandits and numbering about 50, reportedly abducted approximately 20 people during the attack, which took place between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
According to reports, a local resident stated that the terrorists broke into several homes and took some of the occupants through the nearby mountains.
The resident, who asked not to be named for security reasons, said about six houses were broken into, and residents were taken away through the mountains.
The spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, said on her X handle on Monday that the mission of the terrorists failed.
Operatives of the Department if Security Service (DSS) and the police foiled the operation and rescued the victims, she said.
