After ignoring Ex Ogun Gov. Amosuns 1,000 AK-47 rifles, four million bullets, SSS charges Emefiele over one handgun found in Lagos home

A July 13 information accused the former CBN chief of owning an unlicensed gun and bullets in violation of the 2004 Firearms Act.

Suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele has been slammed with two counts of illegal possession of a firearm, as the Tinubu administration continues to find ways to nail the former central bank chief after multiple courts found him unanswerable to previously filed charges of terrorism and corruption.

Federal authorities said they found an unlicensed shotgun that operates on a magnum cartridge, apparently the 44 calibre variety, according to court filings in Lagos.

According to the charges, which said Emefiele also had 123 bullets in his possession for the unlicensed firearm, were brought by the Department of Security Service (DSS).

The charges said the weapons were recovered from Emefieles home in Ikoyi, on June 15, 2023, even though Emefiele was arrested on June 9, 2023, and has been locked up in Abuja ever since.

Recall that while serving as the CBN governor, Emefiele sought unsuccessfully to rescue the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)s presidential ticket from Bola Tinubu.

Tinubu, who was declared winner of the controversial 2023 presidential election in February, immediately fired Emefiele upon his assumption of presidential duties in May and kept him in illegal custody.

A spokesman for the SSS did not return a request seeking comments about when Amosun would be charged, four years after he left office as governor and lost his constitutional immunity from prosecution. Amosun, a member of the APC, stepped down for Tinubu at the ruling partys National Convention in June 2022.
