The opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for a comprehensive investigation into the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), insisting that several top government officials should be questioned over the matter.
According to the party, in a statement issued yesterday, and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the Presidency’s explanation on the matter failed to answer key questions.
the probe should extend beyond the man at the centre of the controversy, Adeniyi Adeyemi, to include key officials whose offices play critical roles in government administration and budgeting.
The individuals mentioned include: the the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, whose office the ADC said should explain whether any approvals or official records existed for PFIPC; National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribaɗu, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Didi Esther Walson-Jack, and Director-General of the Budget Office, Tanimu Yakubu.
The ADC argued that if the Federal Government maintains that the PFIPC never legally existed, then questions must be answered about how the body allegedly secured office space, engaged with government institutions, appeared in official budget documents and reportedly operated within the federal bureaucracy without detection.
The controversy intensified after the Presidency distanced itself from the council and described Adeyemi as an impostor. However, critics and opposition figures have pointed to reports that the PFIPC was listed in the 2026 Appropriation Act with a budgetary allocation, raising concerns about possible lapses in the country’s budgetary and administrative processes.
The ADC and other stakeholders have therefore demanded an independent investigation, insisting that all officials connected to the preparation, vetting, approval and implementation of government budgets should be held accountable if any irregularities are established. The party said no individual or institution should be exempted from scrutiny in order to restore public confidence in governance and public finance management.
