Adamawa: Police arrest suspected kidnappers

The Adamawa State Police Command says it has arrested two suspects for allegedly engaging in kidnapping activities in the State.

The State’s Police Public Relation Officer D.S.P. Suleiman Yahay Nguroje, who stated this in a statement made available to newsmen in Yola, added that in the process it recovered a Toyota Hi-Lux vehicle amongst others.

He said the suspects were picked after they wrote a letter to their target threatening to kidnap him if he failed to pay a certain amount of money.

The statement reads in part: “Following the report made to Police over the kidnapped of an 11year-old boy at Sangere Futy,Girei LGA some time in September,2020, operatives attached to Mubi-North Division, on 01/11/2020 arrested one Aminu Jika, 36 years, and Muhammed Umar, 32 yeas -all residents of Wuro Patuji village, in Mubi-North Local Government Area.

“The suspects, prior to their arrest, kidnapped an 11-year old boy at Sangere Futy, in Girei Local Government Area, demanded and collected the sum of five million Naira as ransom before freeing the innocent boy.

“Since then, the States Commissioner of Police, Olubenga Adeyanju, directed for an immidiate investigation and possible arrest of the culprits”.

The Police, he said, haven gone the extra-mile and successfully apprehended the culprits, recovered Toyota Hi-Lux,three car number plates, phone handsets, among others.

The Command, while asssuring members of its commitments to protecting lives and properties, enjoined residents to report any suspicious person or group around their neighbourhoods to their nearest Police Division.

Meanwhile, he said the suspects will be arraigned before a competent Court for the law to take its course.
