The Arewa Consultative Forum, (ACF), has officially lifted the suspension of Mamman Mike Osuman (SAN), as Chairman of its National Executive Committee, (NEC).

This decision was announced yesterday in a statement signed by the forum’s Secretary-General, Malam Murtala Aliyu. He said the move follows interventions by the ACF’s Unity, Peace, and Reconciliation Committee, chaired by Ajiyan Katagum, Dr. Mahmud Yayale Ahmed (CFR).

Aliyu explained that the reconciliation committee engaged key stakeholders, including the Chairmen of the Board of Trustees (BoT) and the National Executive Council, (NEC), in discussions aimed at resolving the leadership crisis.

He stated that, “The committee has had a family discussion on the unfortunate development. Consequently, the issue has been amicably resolved in the interest of the great people of Arewa; and so, the suspension is hereby withdrawn”.

Recall that Mamman Osuman had been suspended following allegations of making unauthorised statements that some BoT and NEC members deemed politically partisan. Specifically, Osuman was accused of suggesting that the North would support a northern presidential candidate in the 2027 elections, a stance viewed as contrary to the forum’s non-partisan principles.

The controversy, however, appears to have deeper roots. Insiders revealed that the suspension highlighted long-standing internal challenges within the ACF, including personality clashes, ego battles, and disagreements over structural and constitutional matters.

The reconciliation effort, led by Dr. Ahmed, seems to have calmed the tension, allowing the Forum to refocus on its mission of representing the interests of northern Nigeria.
