Suspected bandits yesterday, killed a driver, named Danladi Jobe, and kidnapped two others on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway.

According to a resident of Jere, Yahuza Alhassan, the event occurred about 9:33 p.m. in Dogon-Fili, a few kilometers from Jere town.

Yahuza claimed the deceased was returning from a nearby village market when the bandits appeared from the jungle and opened fire on the vehicle, killing the driver instantaneously.

Alhassan named one of the abducted victims as Shu’aibu, a farmer, stating that the robbers stole approximately N1 million in cash from him.

He said, “The bandits after killing the driver, now went after the man, who is a farmer and dispossessed him of N980,000 cash, before they now whisked him away alongside one other person from the car into the bush”.

It was also gathered that a similar incident occurred last week, when suspected bandits opened fire on a commuter Hiace bus near Gadan-Malam, along the same highway, and whisked travellers on board into the bush.

The spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Mansir Hassan, has not responded to calls or a text message sent him about the incident as of the time of filing this report.
