2027: Wike-loyal PDP faction endorses Tinubu, cites national interest

Wike PDP faction endorses Tinubu

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in the 2027 general election, saying the decision was driven by national interest rather than partisan considerations.

In a statement issued on Friday, the group said it was backing the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate for a second term, arguing that President Tinubu’s leadership and confidence in Wike had contributed significantly to the transformation of the FCT.

The faction praised Wike’s performance as FCT Minister, describing his infrastructure drive and development initiatives across Abuja as outstanding and beneficial to residents.

According to the statement, the endorsement follows the same spirit of cooperation demonstrated during the recent FCT Area Council elections, where candidates of the Wike-aligned PDP faction reportedly stepped down in support of the APC. The group said extending that cooperation to the 2027 general election would promote national unity, political stability, and continued development.

It also expressed support for President Tinubu’s economic reform agenda, acknowledging that while the policies had imposed hardships on many Nigerians, they were intended to lay the foundation for a stronger and more prosperous economy.

The faction argued that a second term would enable the President to consolidate the reforms and complete ongoing development programmes.

It therefore urged PDP members, supporters, and stakeholders nationwide to rally behind the APC-led administration and support President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

The statement also commended both President Tinubu and Wike for what it described as their commitment to national development and the ongoing transformation of the Federal Capital Territory.
