As NDC, ADC eye possible coalition

Former Kano State governor and ex-presidential candidate of the NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has declared his willingness to serve as the running mate to Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election if the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) chooses him for the role.

Kwankwaso made the disclosure during an appearance on television, where he spoke on ongoing opposition realignments and efforts to build a formidable coalition ahead of the next general elections.

According to him, he and Obi have already agreed to work together to tackle insecurity and restore stability across the country. “Both of us, my humble self and Peter Obi, have agreed to tackle the issue of insecurity head-on to ensure there is peace and stability in this country”, Kwankwaso said.

Speaking on the possibility of deputising Obi if he emerges as the NDC presidential candidate, the former governor said he would gladly accept the position if the party deems it necessary. “If the party decides that I should be the running mate of any candidate from the South under the circumstances, I’d be happy to work together with him”, he stated.

Kwankwaso also described a possible Obi-Kwankwaso ticket as a formidable political combination capable of transforming Nigeria “Personally, I cannot remember any better combination, no matter how much time is given, to find those who can beat us in terms of doing the right thing for this country”, he added.

The former Kano state governor further revealed that despite recent political differences, the NDC and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) could still work together before the 2027 polls. “The NDC and ADC may still work together before the election”, he said, while lamenting the continued emphasis on ethnic and religious politics by older politicians.

According to him, younger Nigerians are more concerned about competent leadership and national development than ethnic or religious considerations.

Kwankwaso and Obi recently joined the NDC after exiting the ADC amid reported internal disagreements and leadership crises within the opposition coalition.
