Ahead of the 2027 elections, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has advised President Bola Tinubu to focus on Nigerians’ growing discontent, not opposition alliances.

According to Adebayo, Tinubu is politically-savvy enough to know the opposition Coalition poses no real threat, as many of its members are close associates of the President. Instead, he warned that rising public frustration over poor governance is the real danger.
The SDP presidential candidate criticised the Tinubu presidency for lacking effective governance, saying there is no real administration—only a political movement concerned with consolidating power. “It’s not an administration; it’s a presidency obsessed with politics”, he said.
He also slammed the government’s economic policies, including two “ineffective” budgets and a poorly implemented student loan program, arguing that reducing education costs would be a better solution.
Adebayo accused Tinubu’s team of focusing on expanding political and business empires instead of solving national problems. “They play political chess while the country burns”, he said.
He, however, praised Tinubu for visiting troops in Katsina, calling it a rare moment of leadership. He urged the President to follow through with more action and less politicking.
Adebayo concluded by saying anyone, including himself, who aspires to lead Nigeria must prioritise good governance – something he claims is missing under the current administration.
