2027 Elections: ADC sets conditions for alliance with PDP

ADC sets conditions

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said it is open to working with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 elections, but only if the PDP agrees to a new political approach that departs from what the ADC described as “business as usual”.

According to reports, the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated this while reacting to comments made by the newly elected PDP national chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), who indicated that the party is open to forming a broad opposition coalition before the next general election.

Speaking to Daily Trust, Abdullahi confirmed the ADC’s willingness to cooperate with the PDP but said such collaboration must be grounded in shared principles, not just a desire to win power.

He explained that the ADC’s priority is the transformation of Nigeria’s political culture, not merely electoral victory. According to him, any alliance must reflect the party’s philosophy of reforming governance and placing citizens’ welfare above political interests.

“We’ll be willing to work with any political party in Nigeria that is willing to subscribe to the philosophy of the ADC. We said we are not just interested in winning power for winning’s sake. We are more interested in resetting politics in Nigeria,” Abdullahi said.

He stressed that the ADC would not join any coalition formed solely for winning elections, insisting that collaboration must be based on the commitment to serve the people.

“So, we absolutely believe that all opposition parties need to come together to defeat and remove this government that has threatened everything that we know to be good about our country. We are willing to work with them if they are willing to subscribe to our principles, which is that it is not going to be business as usual and that politics must be to the service of the people”, he added.
