A Civil Society Organisation (CSO), Rescue Nigeria Economy Project (RNEP) has appealed to President Bola Tinubu not to seek re-election in 2027, but should rather emulate the U.S President, Joe Biden, who stepped aside for his Vice-President Kamala Harris to run in his stead.

Recall that there have been speculations in some quarters that the President is most likely going to run in 2027, which was part of the reason the National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, denied any presidential ambition in 2027, restating his loyalty to Tinubu amid posters circulating on social media that claimed he (Ganduje) would contest the presidency in 2027.
The CSO, in a press statement issued yesterday, signed by its Executive Secretary, Dennis Alamu-George stated that four years is enough for any serious-minded leader to impact the society positively.
The statement reads: Right now on X (formerly Twitter) and other social media platforms, the hashtag #ThankYouPresidentBiden is trending. This is because President Biden listened to the voice of reason and chose not to seek reelection as demanded by many Americans, especially members of his Democratic Party.
In Nigeria, we call on President Bola Tinubu to do the same. God has been kind enough to him to make him realise his lifelong ambition as the president of Africas most populous nation. He should be making moves to ensure the best man succeeds him in 2027.
It doesnt have to be his party member right now and no law says it must be his deputy, Shettima. The president should search and get the best man that can turn the fortunes of the country around and use his power and influence to ensure the person wins the election.
Good leaders know that it is not about the years you spent in office but the quality of lives you impact. President Tinubus predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari spent eight years in office. What are Nigerians saying about him today? Many believe he left Nigeria far worse than he met it, Alamu-George said.
