Executive Chairman of Liberty TV and FM stations, Alhaji (Dr.) Ahmed Tijjani Ramalan, has highlighted the economic struggles facing indigenous broadcasting stations in Nigeria.

In his 2025 New Year message issued yesterday, Dr. Ramslan called on the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) to ensure a conducive business environment, as mandated by the NBC Act and Broadcasting Code, to help local broadcasters overcome the industry’s current economic challenges.
The LibertyTV/Radio Boss stressed that the activities of unlicensed international brands, which secure more favorable business terms from corporate Nigeria and local media agencies, put indigenous media companies at a significant disadvantage.
He further said the Nigerian broadcast industry is currently characterised by:
A fragmented regulatory environment that creates operational complexities.
Unfair advertisement agency and buying practices.
Limited capacity for local content production and distribution, resulting in a reliance on foreign content and a dominant distribution monopoly.
Stagnated process of the Digital Switch-Over (DSO).
Inarticulate and unsustainable business models for broadcasters, hindering long- term growth, resilience and investment.
Effects of the liberalisation of the energy sector that has brought upon the media industry increased cost of electricity tariffs and diesel fuel.
Preference of local advertisers for foreign media companies.
Prevailing disruptions by digital and social media platforms.
He further said I am an incurable optimist about Nigeria, in an Interview with Liberty News
While giving his New Year message to Nigerians, Ramalan assured Nigerians of better days ahead, saying, “| wish all Nigerians a happy new year, a prosperous 2025, and I hope every family, every living Nigerian will see something better in the year 2025”.
