2023: “No matter how long of protest, we’ll remove fuel subsidy”, Tinubu vows

Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Bola Tinubu says he would unfailingly remove fuel subsidies if he is elected Nigeria’s president in 2023.

The APC flagbearer made the vow on Thursday, at a luncheon with entrepreneurs in Lagos.

He said Nigeria cannot “continue to subsidise fuel consumption in neighbouring countries. “How can we subsidise the fuel consumption of Cameroon, Niger, Benin Republic? No matter how long you protest, we are going to remove the fuel subsidy”, he stated.

The former Lagos governor added, “First, the primary responsibility of the government is to protect the lives, property and prosperity of its citizens”.

Tinubu promised to work towards enhancing the security situation in the country to allow entrepreneurs to have an enabling environment to do their businesses. He said as governor of Lagos State, fixing the difficult security situation at that time was his first priority.

The Asiwaju also promised that if he wins, Nigerians won’t pay the electricity payment estimated bills system.

The estimated billing system is a kind of electricity payment system whereby the distribution companies, (DisCos) bill customers without the help of any meter, whether postpaid or prepaid. But speaking at a luncheon with business owners in Lagos State on Thursday, Tinubu said this won’t be the case if he is elected.
