The muslim group, Muslim Rights Concern, (MURIC), on Monday clarified its stance regarding an alleged opposition to a Christian Presidency in the 2023 polls.

According to MURIC, its advocacy is for the South-West to produce a Muslim presidential candidate in 2023 and not the opposition of a Christian candidate from other regions.
This was contained in a statement issued by the MURIC Director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, who said it would not oppose a Christian presidential candidate if the position is zoned to any other zone.
The group said its demand is hinged on the condition that political parties zone the presidency to the South West.
Prof. Akintola, however, warned against giving the presidential slot to a Christian Yoruba candidate ahead of the 2023 general election.
He warned that any political party which does so will lose woefully, also claimed that giving such position to a Yoruba Christian is to sentence Muslims in Yorubaland to a life of perpetual slavery.
The Professor, who further lamented over an alleged marginalisation of Muslims in the South-West, accused Christians of not learning the art of ‘living and letting live’.
The organisation also bemoaned that its initial statement was misunderstood.
