2023: “Ill hand over to an Igbo after my tenure, if elected president”, Atiku promises SEast leaders in Enugu

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has promised to work to ensure that the next president of Nigeria after him is an Igbo man.

The former vice president, spoke on Tuesday, during a meeting with PDP South-East zonal stakeholders in Enugu.

Atiku said he has a close relationship with the Igbo people, which he said influenced his choices of Senator Ben Obi and Peter Obi as his running mates in his previous outings as a presidential candidate. He added that he has chosen another Igbo, Okowa, for the third time as his running mate.

According to him, security and restructuring will be part of the priority of the government he leads, adding that, We will recruit, train adequately and reward police and other security personnel. We shall devolve policing powers to States that so desire, and establish State Police to help secure their States.

Atikus running mate, Okowa, in his own remarks, lamented that Nigeria had never been more polarised and disunited as it is under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership. He said the only solution to the current insecurity and other problems facing Nigeria is for the PDP to win the next presidential election, to be headed by an experienced politician like Atiku Abubakar.

Okowa called on Igbo leaders to be bold in tackling the challenges facing the South-East region.
