President Muhammadu Buhari has described the Lekki Deep Seaport which he commissioned on Monday the Lekki Deep Seaport, as “a game-changer that would redefine maritime activities in Nigeria and the entire West African sub-region”.

Similarly, the Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambi, thanked the President for his efforts in completing the project and finding time to visit Lagos for the inauguration ceremony. The Minister particularly commended the President for his approval to designate the seaport as Customs Port, which according to him was contained in the Federal Government Gazette.
He added that the seaport when it fully begins operation will create 170,000 jobs.
The Chinese Ambassador, in his goodwill message, said the project was a good business model, explaining that four countries were involved in the project. He assured that China will be involved in promoting the business model designed for the seaport.
The project was completed in November last year at a cost of $1.6 billion.
The Chinese are to retain 52.5 percent ownership of the Port.
