Serge Aurier, Harry Kane and Tanguy Ndombele, with a stunning third goal, secured victory for Jose Mourinho’s side.
Spurs are now level with third-placed Liverpool, though the champions can go top if they beat leaders Manchester United later Sunday.
Sheffield United remain bottom with just five points from 19 games, 11 points from safety at the halfway point in the season.
