In a congratulatory message issued yesterday, the President referred to Governor Sani as a “younger brother and friend in the struggle for democracy”, noting that his life story offers enduring lessons, particularly for younger Nigerians committed to building a just and egalitarian society.

Tinubu recalled Sani’s early years as a student leader and frontline pro-democracy activist during Nigeria’s years of military rule, when he stood firmly for justice, freedom and national unity despite widespread fear and repression.

“Governor Uba Sani represents a rare generation of leaders whose journey into power was preceded by sacrifice and principle,” the President said, adding that his history of struggle has since matured into statesmanship marked by humility, empathy and resolve.

The President also highlighted Sani’s record in the National Assembly, where he served as a Senator in the 9th Assembly, describing him as a reform-minded lawmaker with intellectual depth. He singled out the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act (BOFIA) 2020 as a landmark legislative achievement that strengthened Nigeria’s financial stability, encouraged innovation, boosted fintech growth and expanded access to credit for businesses and entrepreneurs.

Since assuming office as governor on May 29, 2023, Tinubu said Sani has brought a “refreshing tone” to governance in Kaduna State, blending conviction with compassion and prioritising dialogue, reconciliation and inclusive development.

According to the President, the governor’s deliberate inclusive governance model has helped to unite communities, heal ethnic and religious divisions and restore public trust, leading to improved peace and cohesion across the state. He cited Birnin-Gwari, once ravaged by banditry, as a notable example where security has improved, farmers have returned to their fields and agricultural activities are rebounding. Tinubu attributed these gains to Sani’s strategy of engaging traditional rulers, religious leaders and local communities as partners in peace, thereby deepening security and laying the groundwork for sustainable development.

The President further commended the Kaduna State administration’s strides in infrastructure, healthcare, industrialisation and agriculture, stressing that the governor’s policies reflect a clear understanding that development must be inclusive and impact lives equitably.

He also described Governor Sani as a dependable ally of the federal government and a committed supporter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting his active role in advancing the administration’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda.

“As Uba Sani turns 55, I am proud of his remarkable trajectory, from pro-democracy activist to a key participant in the collective effort to consolidate democratic gains and good governance”, Tinubu stated.

The President concluded by wishing the governor good health, renewed wisdom and greater accomplishments, expressing confidence that Kaduna State and Nigeria will continue to benefit from his leadership and service.
