Fire guts shops, goods in popular Yobe market

Several shops and goods worth millions of naira have been destroyed by fire at Nguru’s popular central market in Yobe State. The Chairman of the Nguru local government council, Madu Kachalla, who confirmed the incident to newsmen, said no life was lost but many businessmen who have shops were severely affected by the disaster. Twenty nursery children died on Tuesday in a fire that gutted a classroom in Niamey, Niger Republic. “There were 20 deaths, most of them young children,” said head of the country’s fire service, Col. Bako Boubacar. He said the origin of the fire in Niamey was unknown.
