Nationwide blackout imminent, as national grid collapses again

The national grid, again, suffered a setback yesterday, causing major blackouts in most parts of the country. The collapse, announced by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, (AEDC), occurred at about 12:26 p.m. yesterday. In a statement issued by the DisCos’ Spokesman, Oyebode Fadipe, in Abuja, it said only five percent, that is 20MW (as of yesterday) has been allocated, as against the over 400MWs it receives. Blackout looms, as nine power plants breakdown

Most parts of the country have been thrown into outer darkness due to power outages and shortages caused by a breakdown of nine National Integrated Power Plants, (NIPPs), which supply electricity to the national grid. The Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, in a statement signed by his media aide, Aaron Artimas yesterday, said the development has drastically affected power generation, thus affecting supply to the national grid. Nation’s electricity grid collapses- TCN

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says the nation’s electricity grid on Sunday experienced multiple tripping, leading to the collapse of the system. Mrs Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs said this in a statement in Abuja on Sunday.
