No fewer than 20 persons were killed when terrorists attacked Duma village in the Tureta local government area of Sokoto State.

According to reports, the attackers stormed the village around 8 am on Wednesday and terrorised the locals for several hours unchecked. They reportedly carted away livestock and kidnapped an unspecified number of youths.
According to a local, who spoke to newsmen on condition of anonymity, said the bandits, in large numbers, rode into the village on motorcycles carrying sophisticated weapons which they used to kill some of their victims. The resident further said that the terrorists arrived on motorbikes in large numbers, killing people with their advanced weapons. Some victims were said to have died while attempting to flee the attack by jumping into a river.
Along with leading a group of security personnel and other government officials on a condolence visit to the village, the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, attended a special prayer for the victims’ souls.
Some of the locals claimed that bandits abducted some young people from the community and held them captive in exchange for significant amounts of petrol.

The Tureta LGA shares a border with Zamfara State, another State in the North-West region where terrorism and banditry now reign supreme. It is one of the local government areas in Sokoto that has suffered a series of attacks in recent times.
