Plateau Jama’atu Nasrul Islam (JNI) firmly denounces Governor Mutfwang’s attempts to divide the Muslim community in the state through the creation of a separate indigenous Muslim group.

According to a statement issued by the JNI yesterday, this divisive action not only threatens the unity and cohesion among Muslims in Plateau State, but also undermines the peaceful co-existence that has been maintained within the community.
It said, “The move to create a separate indigenous Muslim group is a dangerous and harmful tactic that will only serve to sow seeds of discord and conflict within the Muslim community. JNI stands against any efforts to divide Muslims based on arbitrary distinctions and calls for solidarity and unity among all members of the faith”.
The organisation argued that the concept of “Indigenous Muslims” is unIslamic and contradicts the teachings of Islam, which emphasises unity and equality among all Muslims regardless of ethnicity or background.
In their statement, JNI emphasised that Islam frowns upon social stratification not embedded in its teachings.
They urged Governor Mutfwang to reconsider his decision, and instead focus on promoting harmony, understanding and mutual respect among all religious groups in Plateau State. “Division and segregation have no place in a society that values peace and respect for diversity. JNI remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering interfaith dialogue and cooperation for the betterment of all people in Plateau State”, it stated.
