The joint committee of the 10th Senate and the House of Representatives has approved the Nigerian Army proposal to spend ₦1.50 trillion in its 2026 budget.

Lawmakers also pledged to ensure that funds allocated to the Army are released promptly to support effective implementation.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, announced the decision after a closed-door budget defence session in Abuja with the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu.
According to Yar’Adua, members of the joint committee expressed satisfaction with the Army’s budget presentation. However, he noted that delays in releasing approved funds remain a major challenge affecting many government ministries, departments and agencies.
He assured the Army leadership of the committee’s full support, describing the military as vital to national stability and security.
Also speaking, Chairman of the House Committee on Army, Aminu Balele, praised the Chief of Army Staff and personnel for their dedication in tackling insurgency and safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
Balele promised that lawmakers would continue pushing for the timely disbursement of funds to enable the Army to carry out its constitutional duties effectively. He also stressed that the committee would maintain strict oversight to ensure accountability.
The lawmaker further commended Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House of Representatives, for his continued support, pledging sustained collaboration to ensure the Army delivers on its mandate.
