In a bid to address growing concerns over the Tax Reform Bills currently before the 10th National Assembly, the League of Northern Democrats (LND) has announced the inauguration of a Technical Committee to undertake a detailed review of the proposed legislation.
The committee, comprising legal, accounting, legislative, and academic experts from Northern Nigeria, is tasked with conducting a clause-by-clause analysis of the four tax reform Bills. Their objective is to ensure the proposed laws uphold principles of justice, equity, and prosperity while safeguarding the developmental interests of the region.
Speaking in a statement, spokesperson for the LND, Dr. Ladan Salihu, emphasised the importance of the initiative in promoting laws that reflect the constitutional, cultural, and religious values of the Northern people, as well as fostering national unity.
“The committee has committed to completing its review within one week,” Dr. Salihu said, adding that “Its mandate includes identifying provisions that could be injurious or inequitable, proposing necessary amendments, and ensuring that the reforms align with the broader goals of sustainable development and fairness for all Nigerians”.
Upon completing its work, the committee plans to publicly present its findings in a comprehensive electronic and tabular format. The presentation will provide policymakers, legislators, the media, and the public with clear insights into the committee’s recommendations.
Dr. Salihu expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to deliver robust and well-reasoned recommendations, stating that the initiative underscores the LND’s commitment to advocating for policies that enhance justice, unity, and economic growth across the nation.
The LND urged Nigerians to stay informed as it prepares to unveil its detailed analysis and policy proposals in the coming days.
