Kidnapped Zamfara Speakers father dies in bandits den

Police rescue his family members, 11 others

The father of Zamfara State Speaker House of Assembly, Nasiru Mu’azu Magarya, Alhaji Mu’azu Abubakar, has been confirmed dead inside bandits enclave.

Alhaji Abubakar, who was kidnaped eight weeks ago along with his wife, three weeks old baby and three others was said to be dead in bandits’ captivity as a result of heart failure.

The elder brother to the deceased, Dahiru Saraki Magarya, who was among those kidnapped two months ago, disclosed this to newsmen in an interview yesterday.

They were said to have been unconditionally rescued by the police, in collaboration with the military, according to the Police Command headquarters, yesterday, in Gusau, the State capital.

Magarya said it was one of the bandits’ kingpin, popularly known as Kachalla, that informed him a day to their rescue by the security that his brother was dead due to heart failure while in captivity.

Recall that on August 5, 2021, Bandits in their hundreds stormed Magarya town in Zurmi local government of Zamfara state before they kidnapped their victims.

However, five family members of the Zamfara House of Assembly Speaker,
Nasiru Muazu Magarya, have regained their freedom after almost one month in captivity.

The State’s Commissioner of Police, Ayuba Elkanah, Zamfara, who confirmed their release yesterday, while presenting 16 rescued victims in Gusau, said the Speakers family members include Dahiru Sarki Magarya, Hawwa’u Muazu Magarya, baby Khadija, Usman Magarya and Okasha Abdullahi Magarya.

The Police Commissioner said the 11 others, including four women, were abducted from Magamin Tandu, in Kaura Namoda LGA.

Elkanah said all the victims had undergone medical checkups and would be reunited with their families, adding that efforts are being made to rescue the Speakers father.
